Cali Coastal Adventure: Part 2- Carmel

Welcome to part 2 of my big Cali coastal adventure! We headed down the coast a couple of miles to our main destination which was Carmel-By-The –Sea. It’s a very nice seaside town with a beautiful dog beach and it is quite possibly one of the most dog friendly places ever. You may have heard of it because director/actor Clint Eastwood was once the mayor of it. It’s also right next door to the world famous Pebble Beach golf course. Like I said, the beach is beautiful with fine sand and lots of space to roam and best of all, it’s a dog beach! It was almost too good to be true. Apparently the riptides make it too dangerous for humans to swim here but it’s nice for us dogs who don’t go out too far. When we got there I took in all the sites.

You can see the Pebble Beach golf course in the distance, to the north. Is that Tiger Woods? Just kidding!!There are a lot of swanky houses in the area around there and they charge you $9.25 just to drive through. I think I’m going to start charging  humans to drive through my neighborhood   and then I’ll be rich and have a swanky house too, BOL!

I like to walk along the surf and get my paws wet. I’m not much of a swimmer…I leave that to the kids. I like to lounge on my beach towel and watch them swim and run around like maniacs.

We walked all over the town. Ocean Avenue is the main street and it has a lot of great boutique shops and very nice restaurants. A lot of stores and restaurants are dog friendly. There were dog bowls of water outside most places so if you got thirsty you didn’t have to worry. I love to shop and browsed in a lot of stores. I got lots of pets and some cookies too!

We walked past this garage entrance and had a good laugh over the sign…

There are nice little places for you to sit and rest when you get tired.   Here I am having a small pet break….a little to the left please.

Once we got the lay of the land we checked into our hotel, the Cypress Inn. It’s owned by actress  Doris Day, who is a big animal advocate, and is very dog friendly. They have a cookie jar on the check in counter! The hotel is right off Ocean Avenue and is a very nicely restored 1929 Mediterranean style building. It has a very European feel to it and is very nicely appointed. They have a lounge where guests sit by the fire and listen to live jazz with their dogs. I met a beagle, 2 labs, some Portuguese water dogs, a Scotty terrier and a Swiss mountain dog. I liked it a lot and so did the humans. After all that adventure I was very hungry so we headed out to have a nice dinner. I’ll be back with more on my adventure tomorrow.
