Weekend Beach Bum.

After our big Cali Adventure, it was hard to get back into the swing of work. So after slogging through the week we decided to spend a day at the beach to relax. We packed up a nice picnic and headed over to our favorite local dog friendly beach, Leo Carrillo State Park beach. Dogs are allowed on the north beach (past the tide pools) on leash only…hey, it’s better than not at all, BOL! I got my very own sun shelter. It’s kind of like a tent cut in half.

It was a very nice day and not too hot but we did do some wading in the water. I don’t like to swim because of some unfortunate events in my pre-adoption life, but I do like to walk along the shore with my humans.

The beach is very long and is a good walk. Waaay down at the very north end is where all the surfers hang out. The waves break a little bigger down there.

There’s always a lot to see at this beach…porpoises, otters, seals, pelicans and even grey whales in the winter when they migrate south to Mexico. I saw lots of pelicans diving head first into the water for fish as well as some porpoises and seals. There is a big kelp forest here so they all come for a buffet. Sometimes they’re pretty far out and the humans use binoculars to see the seals and porpoises. I just use my nose but maybe someone could invent dog binoculars.

This human was fishing all day but all he caught was kelp. I think the fish stay out in the forest and don’t come too close to shore.

I took lots of walks up and down the beach to check out all the action. When we had worked up a good appetite with all the walking and fresh ocean air, we had a very tasty picnic. My favorite was the chicken but I also liked the brie cheese,     mmmmm! After all that I took a nap in my tent. I had a little towel so I didn’t get sand on my jowls. I think I could spend every day like this…zzzzz.

  1. Hey ya Spencer,
What a great beach. Dad sez he’d drove by it on the PCH going from LAX to Pt Mugu. It’s not far from Pepperdine University, right? Dad agrees with you that there are lots of nice things to look at there, especially some kind of new dog; the bikini. We hope that you didn’t track TOO much sand into the car. Sounds like you had a very grand time at the beach. Drools cool; Dogs rule. Catch y’all later gator.
