Kona’s Bad Week.

Kona had a rough week last week. They say things bad happen in threes and so they did.

It started out with Kona getting attacked by another dog, who was off leash. Kona fought back but was outweighed by about 70 pounds (it was a BIG dog) and got the worst of it which was some scraps on his face. That wasn’t so bad but it was a big set back for Kona, who was never properly socialized and is unsure around other dogs until he gets to know them.

Then  Kona managed to tear his dewclaw. I think it might have been while he was trying to get some peaches off the tree…a long story. So he was hobbling around with a big bandage on his paw all week. It made him pretty sad.

Then came the 4th of July…whoo hoo big fun and BBQ but that evening, well, not so fun. It turns out Kona is terrified of fireworks, even small firecrackers of which we could hear many. The only place he felt safe was snuggled up next to me on the sofa so that’s where we stayed all night. He was even unsure of going out the next morning. Poor Kona had a rough week but things are looking up now. He got his bandage off yesterday and his dew claw toe is healing up. He met his girlfriend Chesa who gave him lots of kisses which made Kona’s tail wag and next year we know to spend the 4th at the studio, which is soundproof:)

On a side note…it’s been eons since we’ve had a chance to get around to see everyone and we apologize…the schedule hasn’t allowed for much time to surf. We hope you are all well and have a GReat summer!

  1. Oh Kona –
I am very upset a bully went after you….
and the 4th was a disaster at our house too. Can Coop come to the studio next year?
    Thinking good thoughts.

  2. Oh, Kona, sweet boy, so sorry you had a tough week. If I could I’d give you a big hug. Sorry you can’t do what I do when I’m not feeling well, which is snuggling with my two kitties, Max and Murphy. They’re very good doctors. But anyway I will pray for your paw. Stay healthy, be happy. So nice to meet you.

  3. Oh Kona so sorry to hear about your challenging week!!! We know how you feel about fireworks!!! Sorry about that other dog too!!!! Hope you get better soon!!! Hugs Joey and Kealani

  4. Sorry, I may have spoken too soon…am I the only one having problems seeing your blog pictures? When I open your blog I just get the text and no pictures. BUT, when I go to the comments page, pictures & text are all there.
I use MozillaFirefox and all my other bookmarked blogs are just fine. Hope you can help. Cheers.

  5. oh Kona!
i wish we could be there to hug you close!
the picture of you with the bandage breaks our hearts…

dewclaw… Eski here gives herself ‘pawdicure’ when no one is around, and sharpens her dewclaw like a deadly weapon. when she jumps up to greets us, that’s when blood on our skin greets us too :(

sorry to hear that you’ve been attacked, we know that sux totally. we hope you are A-OK now!

  6. Ohhhhh poor poor Kona! You sure have had a horrible week but I it appears you are on the mend. Hopefully the next time you run into that big mean dog, he is on a leash! And fireworks, oh my! Our poor Gracie is terrified of them too – she wraps her paws around our arms and pants for dear life! I think she thinks the sky is falling…… Hope this is the worst you encounter this summer (or year for that matter)….

    Paws up buddy!

  7. Awwwwww… poor Kona – so sorry you dear boy. What a string of catastrophes – but know your peeps are so good at helping you feel so much better. Horrible to have been attacked by a bigger dog – so sorries. Hope your are recovering from that – awful. We’ve been terrible about visiting you – Sammie has a new sisfer who is driving her nutso as well as the rest of us! You seem so sane, Kona, in comparison! Love those photos! Take care of that claw!

  8. Hi, it appears to have been fixed! I was just starting to tell you that I use MozillaFirefox and something happened and all your photos came up. Thanks a bunch, as I do enjoy your blog.

Okay, sorry about the dog fight — I hope the owner now knows that her dog should probably not be off leash until some serious socialization and training takes place. Dog fights always sound so terrible and I am glad that K-dog didn’t get hurt worse.

We sailed through the fireworks on Canada Day here (July 1st) with just a little curiosity by PG. Which is funny because she manages to scare herself silly by the most insignificant things… like a funny shaped rock(!)

I guess more cuddles & love for the Kona Dog should get things back to normal. It’s always something, eh?

  9. Sorry to hear about the rough week, but it sounds like everything is on the upswing!

  10. I hope Kona is not too traumatised. I hate dog fights and sometimes I worried about Homer when we meet other dogs(he’s always the victim).

I wish dog owners are more responsible.

    Kisses to Kona.

  11. Poor Kona

Just when he was doing so well. We are glad to hear things are looking up. Loved your last post, by the way, forgot to come back and comment.

  12. We are so sorry to hear of Kona’s bad week. We are glad he was not injured any worse than he was by the other dog.
We know how he feels we hate fireworks too.
Hope he feels better real soon and this setback on his socialization will be over soon.
