Camp Kona- Part 1

This weekend we decided to take a mini-staycation and go camping at a local beach in Malibu. We arrived early and set up base camp in the campground, nestled in a canyon across from the beach. There were a gazillion, okay, a lot of chipmunks surrounding the camp waiting to steal some unsuspecting campers dinner but Kona kept a good watch for the little thieves.

Once camp was set up, it was time for the beach. The weather was overcast but nice with temperatures in the low 70’s. Due to the clouds, it was very quiet on the beach, leaving us lots of space to explore. The boys take a walk along the surf…

Kona likes to watch the surfers…

The swell was small until the tide came in later and then there were some good lines of 4-5 feet. This guy was pretty good.

There is always a fair amount of wildlife activity on this beach because of a kelp forest just offshore. Pelicans fly formation over the waves…

A pair of dolphins swam past…

After all that action we headed back to camp for some rest and relaxation by the campfire…

  1. That last message was actually written by “Lily” with the help of Aunt Deborah….lol.
Aunt Deborah has not had her morning coffee yet :)

  2. Dear Kona,
Will your humans please adopt me too??!! You go on the best adventures. My momma only takes me down our street and back……patoooey!!!! Seriously though, my momma says that she can not believe your transformation from the scared, insecure, timid dog that you were when you were first adopted by your humans to the adventure loving, outgoing, confident dog that you have now become. Momma says it is like a miracle.

  3. Kona looks like quite the camping pro. We would love to go to the beach some day.
