Thank You

Many thanks for all the love and support we have received from the blog community during this difficult time. The love and warmth that has come through Kona’s blog, has been nothing short of amazing. If anyone doubts the power of animals, this is a true testament to the good they bring to the world.

I have decided to keep this blog going in Kona’s memory. After our hearts heal a bit, we will continue to foster and work with dogs in need and will document here, our journeys along the way.

Over the past days, I have found going through the many photos I took of Kona, to be a way of coping with the pain of losing him. He was always very patient with me following him around with the camera and my best subject for experimenting with. One of my projects was to document all his little details…things about him I wanted to remember forever. Here are a few:

 Kona’s happy tongue and smile.

His tail, which no matter how much I brushed it, always went back to being a little frizzy.

His nose which wiggled as he breathed in the scents of the moment.

His slightly too big ears. He had amazing ears, just slightly too big for a Golden but wonderfully soft. I loved the way they curved around his face when he looked down. The touch of frizz behind them was just an added bonus:)

Great big paws, usually in need of a bit of trimming. When he came to us his pads were very dry and cracked. He used to let me rub Burt’s Bees  Hand Salve onto them until they became soft again. He never tried to lick the salve off and he smelled herby fresh as a bonus.

That wonderful little hollow of his brow. The spot just perfect to plant a kiss.

  1. I am really glad that you have decided to continue this blog. So many folk simply stop posting after such a big loss, but it will be Kona’s way of allowing you to heal. I have come to really appreciate your beautiful photography. And yes, I know what its like to relish each and every aspect of thousands of photos. What amazing memories…

  5. I have “known” your human & dog family since Spencer was on earth and truly enjoy the adventures you’ve shared with all of us. Your photos and comments remind me to appreciate every single moment with our Labrador Retriever. There is nothing like the love of a special dog!

Please accept this thank you as a small token of appreciation for your wonderful work with goldens and humans who care for them!

  6. Isn’t it amazing how ‘dog folks’ seem to find that little place to plant kisses? That is exactly where Scout and Freyja get theirs. It is the PURRfect spot! We are keeping you close to our hearts during this most sad of times for you. The best legacy Kona could leave behind would be your desire to keep fostering and taking in dogs who need you. I bet he’s thrilled to know that there will be more paws to take for walks and more dog hair to brush off the sofa.

  7. We haven’t been keeping up with your blog – we just found out that Kona had crossed the rainbow bridge. We were so saddened to hear of your loss. It seems like such a short time ago that our hearts were broken following the sad demise of Spencer. Our heartfelt wishes go out to you at this difficult time.

We are sure that Kona is now frolicking happily with Spencer.

    Love,
    Homer and family.

  8. Those are all the wonderful things I love about my Sophie. Thank you for sharing. I will continue to enjoy Konas blog. He still makes me smile!

  9. All parts of Kona = one incredible dog. And his truly amazing peeps. You are held in thoughts and prayer, and so much gratitude for sharing your love and life together. We will wait with you through some healing, and then…another life into whose ears Kona will whisper…”just wait. i have the perfect family for you…life will be better…i promise”.

  10. And we thank you for allowing us to be part of Kona’s life and legacy!

We’ve all felt the pain – and will again –

Knowing we can share it with others, lessens it a bit –

    Hugz&Khysses,
    Khyra and Phyll
