Spencer-Remembering The Love.

17 Feb

In loving memory of Spencer

March 1, 1998 – February 17, 2009

It is hard to believe it has been a year since we lost Spencer to cancer. I still laugh out loud when I think of some of his antics. He was an amazing dog who touched many other lives besides ours. An old soul, he just had something about him that made people love him as soon as they saw him. Spencer was one of the best examples of what a great dog you can rescue.

Even though I miss him more than imaginable, he still makes me smile everyday.

Foster Updates

08 Sep

We thought we’d share some news we’ve recently gotten on some of our past fosters….

Sunny came to stay with us and Spencer and foster, Jessy, in March 2007. This 10 week old sweetie was full of Golden puppy energy. She and Jessy (4 months old) were a little Golden tornado whirling through the house and yard. Sunny was a very big personality in a small package.

Sunny was adopted a week after she came to us and lives the good life in Northern California with her fur sisters. She grew up into a pretty redhead and is now known as Riley.

The latest report on Titus is that he is also living in NorCal with his new family , including one fur-brother, who all adore him. They call him Ty and he is training to be a therapy dog so he can visit hospitals and make everyone feel better.

And Sky, now called, Murphy, is living the good life with his loving family in Los Angeles . He goes for big walks in Griffith Park and has happily settled into his new life.

Getting updates is one of the great rewards of fostering. We get to see our fosters blossom into the amazing dogs they are and see them go on to live out wonderful lives in the loving homes they deserve.

Remembering Spencer

17 Jul

It is  5 months today that we lost Spencer to hemangiosarcoma. There is not a day goes by that we don’t remember Spencer, sometimes with a few tears but mostly with a smile or laugh.  This week was our 13th wedding anniversary and it made me remember  the trip we took up to Carmel for our  anniversary last summer. Spencer came along and we all had the best time. He was so eager to explore new places and enjoyed it the most when we were all together.

He made the trip a lot more fun just being there.

Spencer was at home anywhere…the hospital, anyone’s home, even on a shopping trip. He was like an old friend even if you just met him. He had an “old soul” and if you looked into his deep dark brown eyes you felt everything was wonderful.

And of course, he was famous for carrying 3 tennis balls at a time in his mouth. This picture must have made many smile and it still makes me grin until my face hurts.

Spencer is a true testament to the joy rescuing “old Gold” can bring to your life (and the lives of so many others as in Spencer’s case). No one truly knows how much time we have with those we love but if you treasure every minute, it lasts you a lifetime. We knew we may not have long when we adopted Spencer at 8 1/2 years old but it didn’t matter, he was pure love and we would do it all over in a heartbeat.

We miss you big guy.
