Kona-celebration

15 Feb

Why is Kona smiling?

It’s not because our lawn came back or that it is 78F (26C) here in Los Angeles…well okay, maybe that might have a little bit to do with it but the main reason is that Kona passed his basic obedience class. With a little more practice to make sure he has it all down pat, he’ll be trying to pass his Canine Good Citizen test.

This might not seem like a very big achievement for Kona but for a dog who froze stiff and drooled with fear of practically everything only 6 months ago, it is kind of a big deal.

Some rescues will always have lingering issues, but with knowledge and patience you can work through them. A good example is one of the dog’s in Kona’s class, a rescued Border Collie. Apparently he was a mess emotionally and threatened by everything when his loving family adopted him. With their patience, diligence and willingness to seek out good help, he has become an amazing dog. He still has a few things to work out but seeing how far he has come in such a short time, he will only keep getting better and better.

In celebration of his graduation, Kona went shopping and picked out a new stuffie. He lounged away a sunny Sunday afternoon in the sunshine with the occasion roll in the fresh grass.

    PAWsome Job Kona.
We were very happy to have heard you past your big test. Even happier to hear that you were so smiley about it – what a difference havin’ the right peeps makes in a dog’s life –
Looks like you not only got a new stuffie – but you are sportin’ a new collar in this pic.
Best of luck on the good citizen’s test…I failed it. Somethin’ about me being too social and flirty…the real kicker is I get a wee bit upset if my momma leaves me with someone else and walks away.
    Lots of love
    Ben

    *yay jumps for joy!!*
    that’s good news!
when we adopted eski she was also emotionally scarred. she’d be wary of all human beings around; and when we go near, she ducked as she thought we were going to hit her.
and yup she’s now a much happier dog!
    :D

That is such encouraging news. Sounds familiar. ( PonyGirl was a scaredy-cat as well). It is so nice to see them embracing the world instead of frightened of it. It does take some work and attention but it is so worth it. Good job…all of you.

CONGRATULATIONS! WOWZA! That is quite an accomplishment even for a pooch with no issues. Kona, you need some extra cookies, don’t you? Wasn’t it furry hard work to take your test? Sure it was! We think you need an extra walkie and a double portion of dog cookies today!
