One From The Past

While organizing my photo library I came across this one, from a year ago, in the archives. We had a 5 hour hike in the mountains that day. Kona probably put on twice as much milage as we did with his extra exploring as we hiked. As soon as we got home, he had dinner and …

Just Being There…

Every now and then, you get a foster case with absolutley no hope. A dog too far gone from human neglect, and the afflictions brought on by that abuse. In those cases, you can only be there for them, until the time comes to set them free from their pain and suffering. This is the …

Bond

It is hard to believe a month has passed since we lost Kona to cancer. They say time heals all wounds and I suppose that’s true. While I still miss him terribly, that will never change, I am learning to live with the hole he left in my life. Recently, I met someone who could not …

Found Treasures

I found an old roll of film in my camera bag from a little over a year ago. This photo of Kona curled up on our bed, made me remember how much he loved to curl up there on a winter morning. It also made me realize my old camera (Nikkormat FTN) needs a tune …

Remembering

First, a moment of silence for those lost on 9/11… It has been a difficult week, full of emptiness. We have been doing our own grieving, something everyone everyone does differently. There have been many tears, but at the same time, many smiles from wonderful memories. The space Kona left in our hearts and home …

Thank You

Many thanks for all the love and support we have received from the blog community during this difficult time. The love and warmth that has come through Kona’s blog, has been nothing short of amazing. If anyone doubts the power of animals, this is a true testament to the good they bring to the world. …

To Have Loved….

“‘Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all” -Alfred, Lord Tennyson In loving memory of Kona April 8, 2003- September 3, 2011 Yesterday, with great sorrow and many tears, we had to say our final goodbyes to our beloved Kona, who lost his battle with cancer. Kona passed peacefully …

Calling All Angels

“but if you could…do you think you would trade it in all the pain and suffering? ah, but then you’d miss the beauty of the light upon this earth and the sweetness of the leaving calling all angels calling all angels walk me through this one don’t leave me alone” -Jane Siberry “Calling All Angels”

Art For Kona

Some of the neighborhood kids came by to give Kona some pictures they made for him. It made him very happy to have visitors today.

Dream On

Sing with me, sing for the year Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing with me, if it’s just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away -Aerosmith “Dream On” Seize the day, live the moment.

Quality Time

Spending quality time with Kona outside… and in…. Kona is slowing down this week and we are spending every second with him to make him comfortable and happy. His spirits are still high but his body is not co-operating. He is still demanding belly rubs though…always a good thing:) Thanks again to all of you …

An Anniversary Of Sorts…

It was 2 years ago today Kona became our 17th foster dog. Here he is, right after we gave him a bath, giving me that big smile of his. The moment I saw Kona, I fell in love with him, so even though his adoption wasn’t official until a little while later, today is the …

Love & Support

A tender moment with my boys. Kona pushes into you with his head while wagging his tail…one of his many ways of showing affection. I am always amazed at the comfort our dogs give during their toughest times. Truly a gift.

Big Red Kona

I don’t have much to say, but I am grateful today for this time, just sitting and being together.  Life is short, live it to it’s fullest.

Raja-Remembering The Original Red Dog

In loving memory of Raja April 7, 1997 – March 1, 2006 Raja was an amazing Golden Retriever who taught me the most important things in life: play hard, love harder and enjoy the moment, each and every one of them. I have never met anyone who lived life better than Raja. Though thick and …

How To Save A Life…Including Your Dog’s.

While on a hike this past weekend, we had a lesson in how fast a good time can quickly turn to an emergency, when you least suspect it. After hiking to the summit of some local mountains, we gave Kona a cookie for a snack . Being a dog, he inhaled it as fast as …

In Loving Memory of Ben & Jerry.

Ben & Jerry, April 28 – June 30, 2008   This post is from Spencer’s human mom: Life rarely ends like a movie…where everyone lives happily ever after. Yesterday was one of those days when it was painfully reminded to us. At 4pm yesterday afternoon we had to say goodbye to Ben & Jerry. …

A Day In the Life.

I’m happy to report that Jessy has fully recovered from her spay operation. She woke up after a full 7 hours of sleep (oh yes, I enjoyed that…this old dog loves to sleep in!) ready to play and ravenous because her food had to be limited for the past 2 days due to the operation. …

Zoom…I Feel Good!

Oh yeah, I feel good…just like the James Brown song…na, na, na, na, na. Life is good, I’ve got new tennis balls and I’m getting lots of love too! I’m so happy I got the zooms. For those of you who don’t know what the zooms are, that’s when we dogs run around in crazy …

Meditation.

There’s a little spot in my house that I like to go and meditate.  It’s very cozy. Sometimes I go there and just  ponder things like…Why don’t tennis balls fall from the sky? … Why are cats so moody? ….Why can’t I open the cookie jar by myself? … Why can’t we have world peace? …
